Places You May Be Forgetting to Vacuum

It is super important to vacuum carpets and area rugs on a regular basis to keep them in their best condition and keep your home its cleanest clean. When we are vacuuming these are the places we always clean, but there are some areas in our home that we forget to vacuum on a regular basis and should work into our regular vacuuming routine. These often neglected spaces get pretty yucky. Read on to discover them.

Places You May Be Forgetting to Vacuum

  • Baseboards

It is not noticeable at first, but with time the tops and even along the bottoms of the baseboards where the carpet meets the wall become covered in a thick layer of dust. Sometimes you may notice a greyish line. Hit these areas with the hose of the vacuum to avoid build-up.

  • Blinds

Blinds can be dirt magnets. If they are not cleaned weekly they get pretty grimy. There are many ways to clean blinds. A quick and easy method is to use your dusting attachment on the end of the hose. That is what it was made for after all.

  • Upholstery

Furniture can accumulate a lot of things just like your carpet. Just because you are not walking across the furniture does not mean it is immune to dust and debris or even skin, oils, and hair. The best way to keep furniture clean and even give it a longer life is with regular vacuuming. Use the upholstery attachment that came with the vacuum on the end of the hose. Don’t forget to get under the cushions.

  • Vents

There are vents all over our homes from the bathroom to the heating and cooling system. These little grates have constant air flow through them and can get pretty gunky with dust particles and other things floating through the air. Take a few minutes to suck the gunk with the vacuum, you may even breathe a bit easier.

  • Under the Beds

We often don’t think about the areas of the floor that are not wide open, because of this lots of yuck accumulates in places that don’t get attention. Take a few extra minutes to get underneath the bed when you are cleaning in the bedroom.

  • Mattress

You generally don’t have the bed completely unmade when you are vacuuming and you likely just don’t think of needing to do anything with your bed beyond sticking the sheets in the laundry. At least once a month your mattress should be vacuumed to get the stuff that settled down into the fabric.

In addition to regular vacuuming, you should have yearly professional deep cleanings to clean out the deepest crevices in your carpet and upholstery. This will ensure these surfaces are truly clean and will last to their full life expectancy.
