Basic Rules for Cleaning with Vinegar
Cleaning carpet with vinegar is a simple process.First blot up as much of the stain as possible with a clean dry white cloth or paper towel. Then create a simple solution of half vinegar and half luke warm water and apply to the stain. Blot from the outside toward the center until the stain is gone. Rinse with water and blot dry with a new clean towel.
It is a good idea to purchase a spray bottle and fill with vinegar solution to have on hand so you can clean stains and spills as soon as they happen. Unlike soap and chemical cleaners, vinegar won’t leave behind residue. Vinegar does have a strong and unpleasant smell but it is not harmful to breathe in and the smell disappears as soon as the vinegar is dry.
Vinegar is a great cleaner for many stains, but it is not an all purpose spot cleaner there are some substances such as ice cream and ink that would be better off with a different cleaning solution.
