Tricks to Up Your Floor Cleaning Game

Make cleaning the floors in your home just a bit easier and more fun with these cleaning tricks.

Make Your Own Crevice Tool Tricks to Up Your Floor Cleaning Game

Maybe your vacuum didn’t come with a crevice tool or maybe it isn’t narrow enough to get into the cracks in the sill of the sliding glass door. No worries, you can make your own crevice tool out of a carboard tube. Its super simple, just slide one end of an empty toilet paper roll or a cut down paper towel roll over your vacuum hose. Flatten the other end so that it forms a narrow slit and get to work sucking the dirt out of window sills, under furniture, along floorboards, and numerous other tight spaces.

Make Your Dustpan More Effective

Have you ever swept the floor and were almost done, just to spend several minutes trying to get the pile of gunk into the dustpan? It can be annoying trying to trap it all in there or get what is in there to stay while you round up what isn’t yet in there. Get dust to stick to the pan and stay in it by wetting it before you scoop up the dirt off the floor. When you are done just wipe the dirt that sticks to the surface off the pan out with a paper towel after emptying the loose dirt in the trash.

Vacuum with a Fresh Scent

Give the whole room an extra boost after vacuuming by adding some scent crystals to the vacuum. Simply vacuum up some laundry scent crystals, a small amount of cinnamon, or some baking soda after doing the next trick, and the room will be left with a pleasant scent every time you vacuum.

Eliminate Musty Carpet Odor

Mix up some baking soda and essential oils to get those funky smells out of your carpet. In a small bowl, measure out one cup of baking soda and add in 10 drops of your favorite smelling essential oil. Mix them together well and sprinkle it over the stinky carpet. Let the baking soda sit for one or several hours depending upon how strong the smell is and then vacuum the area thoroughly.

Clean Nooks and Crannies with Rubber Gloves

When you can’t reach an area of the floor with your crevice tool and don’t have a cardboard tube to help out, grab a rubber glove.  Use it to wipe up dust, dirt, pet hair, and human hair from hard to reach nooks and crannies like the corners of the stairs.

Clean Grout with Carpet Foam

Over time, even with routine proper mopping, your tile floors may have less than pretty grout lines. Get those grout lines sparkling with the use of foaming carpet spot treatment. Some people recommend the Resolve brand foaming carpet cleaner. Spray the grout lines directly with the cleaner and let it sit for 10 minutes then wipe the cleaner away and mop.
