Use Salt to Clean Red Wine Off Upholstered Furniture

Step 1

Sprinkle salt generously over the wet wine stain being sure to cover every part of the spill.

Leave the salt on the spill over night to give the salt time to soak up the wine.

Step 3

The next day grab your vacuum and vacuum the salt from the furniture. The salt should absorb all of the wine leaving you with a clean chair.

If there is still some red wine left behind on the fabric get a clean white cloth and wet the area with some club soda or tonic water and sprinkle with salt again and leave until dry. Once dry vacuum up the salt.

Blot any moisture up with a paper towel or clean white cloth.

Pour club soda or tonic water over the stain and blot up working from the outside of the stain toward the center using a clean area of cloth with each blot until the cloth no longer lifts the stain and comes up clean.

Step 3

If no color is in the cloth but remains on the chair add more club soda to the stain and continue to blot until the stain is removed.

Step 4

Clean the area with a tiny amount of dish liquid and water once done rinse the dish liquid out with clean water and blot excess moisture with a dry cloth.
