The kitchen floor is one of the most heavily used areas in the home. Very quickly the kitchen floor can accumulate stains, spills, crumbs, and dust. With the large amount of build-up that can quickly accumulate comes the need for frequent cleaning.  

A great way to keep your kitchen floors clean and in top shape is with Castile Soap. Castile Soap is a safe green cleaner that is olive-oil based. It is tough on the most stubborn of stains and is really great on hardwood and tile. 

How to Use Castile Soap to Clean the Kitchen Floor 

For Hardwood Floors 

Start your cleaning with vacuuming or sweeping. The best method for mopping hardwood floors is to use a dry-mop method. Water is enemy number one to wood, so you want to use as little water as possible to prevent damage. Mix one teaspoon of castile soap and 24 ounces of hot water into a spray bottle and finish with 10 drops of either lemon or rosemary essential oil. Mix well and lightly spritz on the floor then wipe with a microfiber mop. We prefer a mop with a removable and washable head.  

For Tile Floors 

You can use the same method above for hardwood floors or you can use the traditional bucket method. If using the bucket method make sure to follow by rinsing with clean water. Tile holds up to large amounts of water much better than hardwood so you can use a few different methods of mopping.  

Mopping tips: 1. Ideally mopping should be done on a weekly basis to keep your kitchen floors in their best shape. 2.When mopping use an arcing motion and start in the furthest back area of the room then mop yourself out the door or opening to the kitchen. 3. Be careful not the use too much castile soap in your cleaning solution and not to overspray or moisten the floor with cleaner. Too much cleaner can leave your floors dirtier than when you started as it can leave a soapy film that will attract dirt and dust to it.  

In addition to regular sweeping and mopping your hard surface floors should also have a professional deep cleaning at least once a year, more often if you have very high traffic floors or special health concerns in your home.
