Which will allow you to live an easier and low maintenance life?

To determine what finish style you should choose for your home’s tile it is a good idea to look at each type of finish, the pros and cons of each and their general maintenance needs.

Glossy TilesWhich Tile is Easiest to Clean- Matte or Glossy?

Pros

Glossy, high shine tiles, can give a space a modern and sleek look. They reflect and bounce light through the room which can make a space feel larger and more spacious.

Cons

The downside of a glossy finish tile is that when they are wet, they get slippery, very slippery. They are best used on floors in rooms where there is not much moisture involved.

Cleaning Glossy Tile Floors

Glossy tile floors are pretty simple to clean. Most of the time they can be mopped easily after sweeping with warm water and a mild detergent and a soft mop. Harsh chemical cleaners should be avoided on glossy tiles because it can eat away at the glossy finish. If you live near the beach and are in contact with a fair amount of sand or if you have a gravel driveway glossy floor may not be the best choice as these items will scratch up that pretty shiny surface.

It is important to clean any stains or spills as soon as they happen as well to avoid any damage to the finish.

Matte Tiles

Pros

Matte tiles come in both glazed and unglazed form. They provide a more traditional look and feel in the space and allow for better traction. They are a great low maintenance choice for bathroom floors and entry areas where there is high traffic. Matte tiles also make it harder to see fingerprints/dirt/streaks.

Cons

It is more difficult to see dirt and therefore more difficult to determine if your matte floors are fully clean. Some of them may even require a special cleaning method.
